What is the student visa?


Hestudent visais the residence permit that allows non-EU citizens to remain in Spain while they study in public or private educational centers, carry out research in the country or participate in some type of training.



Student visa types

There are two different types of student visas depending on the duration of the studies:


  • Short Term Student Visa, the option created for those foreigners who study between 91 to 180 days in the country.
  • Long-term student visa,in case the duration of your studies is longer than 6 months.


Keep in mind that regardless of whether you are a community citizen or not, if your studies last less than 90 days you do not have to apply for a student permit. Your tourist visa will suffice.


Requirements to obtain the visa


Requirements to be met in order to study in Spanish territory. We will analyze from where you have to submit the application, the documents that you must include, where to present them and the requirements that you must meet.


  • You cannot be a citizen of the European Union.
  • You must be in legal status in Spain and have not been prohibited from entering the country.
  • Possess sufficient economic funds to stay in Spain for 1 or 2 years (depending on the duration of the stay)
  • Have private or public health insurance with full coverage in Spain.
  • You will need to be admitted to the course/university in which you plan to study. This means that before starting the application you must have received theacceptance letter issued by the educational center.
  • Have a criminal record free of charges.
  • For short-term study visas, you must also include round-trip air tickets to and from your country of origin.
  • For higher studies such as a master's degree or postgraduate, it is very likely that they will ask you for thehomologation or validation of your university degreeif you got it in your country of origin.


Documents necessary to carry out the procedure


  • If the student is under 18 years old and is not accompanied by their parents, a legal authorization signed by them
  • Medical certificate proving that the applicant does not suffer from any disease recognized by theInternational Health Regulations 2005.
  • Your passport and copy of it.
  • Documentation proving the possession of sufficient financial funds.
  • Registration or document that certifies that the academic institution in which you will study has accepted you and has a place for you for the next academic year. That is, the acceptance letter.
  • EX-00 modelfilled in.
  • Specific information about your accommodation or the place where you will live during your stay in the country.
